The Notebook.

The storyline of poor boy meets rich girl has been done to death, but in this case it makes for a charming film. An elderly woman with dementia listens to a story read to her by a man who happens to be her husband, only she is unable to remember due to the dementia.

A lovely, sweet film with a beautiful score and sweeping imagery; its one of those guilty pleasure movies and still manages to make us tear up whenever we watch it.

I found the scenes in which an older Ally battles the effects of dementia (being unable to recognize her own husband, etc.) thought provoking and sad because the awareness is so sudden and the condition unpredictable.

Maybe the reason that people find the story so sad is that we don’t want to lose those that we love.
