Released around the time of the 2009 financial disaster, this is the story of Becky Bloomwood, who is obsessed with shopping. She works as a financial advisers and has financial problems of her own.
I used to be a big fan of the book series from which this is derived but this film just slumps. Yes, it has its funny moments. I think they committed character suicide in writing it, though. Maybe it made it more marshmallow-light for audiences, but in reality all it does is tick all the boxes of a chick-lit movie and slaughter the source material all at once.
Escapism, yes. Faithful to the books, no. Hugh Dancy in the role of the main ‘hero’. Yes.
MY RATING: 2 / 5.
