A superb movie about a young penniless squire called William Thatcher who changes his stars and becomes a great knight. Along with its classic rock soundtrack, this is a film to watch. It boasts a superb cast of Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany, Mark Addy and Shannyn Sossamon among others.
This film has everything – a naked Paul Bettany, a cracking soundtrack, and the late Heath Ledger as the character of William Thatcher. It also sneaks in some strong female characters although some may find them annoying. Some of the criticism of the film extends to its supposedly paper-thin plot and rock music soundtrack – but so what? There are so many films to watch if you want a serious look at the Medieval era. This is just a bit of candy-sweet fun. I can’t think of anything bad about this movie, apart from perhaps the motivation behind William having to lose the joust at one point in the story.
On the other side of the coin, this film still manages to have its tender, moving moments but this doesn’t take over the whole movie. Added to this, super frocks and the ultra-modern take on Medieval history. This is a movie for the ages.
MY RATING: 4.5 / 5.
