This film is so-so, I guess. Lauren Weisberger wrote it after herself being an intern for Anna Wintour at Vogue and I suppose part of it was an adroit way that Ms Weisberger could get back at Wintour. The film takes massive liberties with the book and leaves a lot of stuff out. I suppose that could have been forgiven to make it a bit more of a streamlined story.
It brings the fashion world vividly to life and there are numerous cameo roles from people in the fashion industry – keep your eyes peeled if you’re into that sort of thing. The movie also lends its weight to some formidable supporting cast – Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and the super Meryl Streep.
Even if it is about such a serious topic as the fashion industry, its nothing more than a chick flick – problem, overcome the problem, problem solved. With lessons learned! I feel that the ending of the book was more realistic even if the narrator was more cynical. Generally a good film, though. Not perfect, but passable.
The movie has a good soundtrack and fashion which hasn’t aged at all despite the film being nearly 10 years old.
