In this addition to the series, Hankin opens a dance hall in the village. More shocking than that, a nurse visits the village and talks about contraception – a topic still very controversial at this point in time.
Bert still has feelings for Martha, who is unhappy in her marriage. She ends up getting a job teaching at the school with Gerard Eyre. I hope a romance develops there. It would certainly be interesting. A girl in the village also has feelings for Bert, who is blind to the feelings she has for him.
A good episode, and an OK series so far. I hope they can manage the extended time-frame sufficiently because it will be tricky. However, I’m sure the script will be able to hold up against it.
My only criticism would be that half way through the episode, I got two characters mixed up and my confusion remained for the rest of the episode.
MY RATING: 2.5 / 5.
