A series is good if it can make you feel a multi-pronged wave of emotions. That means you identify with the characters and feel pain or anguish at their struggles and rejoice when things turn out well for them.
Aside from the storylines about Gibby, Eyre and Martha eloping to Africa and John’s coma, respectively, Caro was trying to find out what happened to the son who she had been forced to give up in the previous series. Thwarted again by her family, she is distraught but with the help of her brother she manages to find her son and the two are reunited. Excellent acting from all involved. Ever since the onset of Caro’s storyline I had always hoped for a happy ending. By the end of the episode, I was sobbing like a baby.
As this storyline mainly focuses on Bert Middleton, the series gave him a happy ending by having him and Phoebe become engaged. That pairing was rather sweet I suppose. The little actor who played the role of young Joe was perfect for the role and I hope the character is a big part of series 3.
