A movie about a young FBI trainee seeking the help of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter to track down a serial killer known only as Buffalo Bill.
This film was definately worth the expansive reputation it has amassed. A chilling movie which has fitted snugly in the horror genre without the need for jump scares and shaky camera.
Jodie Foster is the newbie FBI investigator, Clarice Starling, charged with enlisting the help of Lecter, to track down the serial killer only known as ‘Buffalo Bill’. She has some secrets in her past, and the quick-witted Lecter quickly sees through her.
This film blew me away with the immeasurable feeling of tension which is evident from the beginning. The atmosphere is very dark and it pulls you in, drowning you.
Anthony Hopkins is masterful as Lecter. He is only onscreen for 17 minutes but he makes those 17 minutes matter. He is quick-witted and one step ahead of everyone else.
A great movie, which is worth the impressive reputation it has amassed since its release. Even after more than 20 years, it hasn’t lost any of its power to shock and surprise.
MY RATING: 3.5 / 5.
