So I finally buckled and settled down to watch Poldark…
My mum was a big fan of the original Poldark and the modern rendition received lots of attention due to Aiden Turner, who plays Poldark in this rendition, so I decided to give it a go.
Turner is top-class, a rugged edifice of sensuality which makes all the other characters a bit dull in comparison. I wasn’t a fan of Elizabeth, despite her ‘beauty’. It was interesting to see Eleanot Tomlinson as Demelza, a character more profound due to her fiery feral nature, wild hair and difficult upbringing. The representation of women in this episode is interesting, too, with the lines of definition between spinster, wife and whore being blurred beyond recognition.
A super start to a show full of promise. I also heard there will be a series 2. Yippee!
MY RATING: ***** / *****
