A movie about the Inbetweeners gang heading off on a lads holiday to Crete.
I’m going to start off by saying that I never watched the inbetweeners series which preceded this film.
It begins almost as a critique of stifling suburban life and continues as the group get up to exploits in Malia and the consequences of their exploits.
Now, the film is crude and irreverent. That’s to be expected. Its obviously one of those sorts of films that could get quite awkward if you were to see it with…your grandparents, for example.
There were definately some funny moments but like all comedy, it seems to rely unduly on stereotypes (‘nerd’ and ‘fat girl’ being just two examples) and this is a trope which has been so overtly used that any film without such stereotypes would just seem strange. It also takes place on a party island which people are familiar with, even if they haven’t been there personally it is the sort of place often touted in the media.
Anyway, aside from that serious segway there it was an OK movie. While not particularly intelligent, it was at least vaguely watchable. That being said, I suspect anybody watching the film may need to be quite hammered when watching it because that is the only way it can be taken seriously.
MY RATING: ** / *****
