Poldark (Episode 6).

1Jim is gravely ill in Bodmin jail. Can Poldark save him?

This is the first episode of the series which has made me feel true despair. The writing is excellent, the characters are top-notch…but this was the first episode where that feeling of hopelessness truly descended upon me.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a great episode and put across Poldark’s innate sense of justice which jarred against the rules of the bourgeois upper class. But the episode was also very sad and coupled well with the aforementioned hopelessness.

I’ve said before about how great the actors are and I will say it again. They bring breath and life to their roles, which in turn makes you ache for their struggles and woes. Also as far as I’m aware, the series is quite faithful to the books.

MY RATING: **** / *****
