Village of the Damned (1960).

village_of_damned_01An interesting film which has a lot to say.

This is a sci-fi horror film about eerie blond children in a small English village who have glowing eyes and inexplicable mind control abilities.

This movie was heavily referenced in an episode of The Simpsons. For the longest time, I’ve wanted to see this film out of curiosity. It reads like an episode of the Twilight Zone. But British, with drawn out diction and steely gazed children.
George Sanders was surprisingly good as Dr Zellaby, whose ‘son’ Martin was one of the unusual children and who seemed to be trusted by the children despite their mind reading abilities. This is not one of those flash-bang-wallop horrors. The menace is more of an undercurrent, and borne of fear of the unknown.

Its only 77 minutes long, and it seems its all polished off far too quickly with barely enough time to breathe! Still a good film though.

MY RATING: ***.5 / *****
