The first episode of a six part series where women in a Cheshire village try and survive the war at home while the conflict occurs overseas.
I was quite looking forward to watching the series after seeing it on ITV player which can be a godsend during periods of laziness which occur during holidays.
The episode has proved to be rather pappy. Dealing with such issues as WI meetings, blackberry picking and romance, this is a bit of escapism. However, there are plenty of moments where there is darkness…including one of the women’s unhappy marriage to a writer where he frequently verbally degrades her.
There are plenty of plot arcs to maintain a good story which will hopefully carry through all six episode. A perfectly adequate episode.
