More drama to be had in the second episode of Home Fires…
In the streets of Great Paxford, troops train and do army drills. Its also decided that the village’s cricket pitch will be ploughed up and used to produce food. Pat also endures more humiliation at the hands of her nasty husband.
There are only six episodes in this series. Potentially this could mean it sacrifices character in order to satisfy pappy plots and dramatic scenes. As I’m currently only on episode 2 out of 6, I can only wait and see what the other episodes have in store for the characters.
Over all, this episode was still rather soapy but still shows the various struggles of women during the war where the women were left to pick up the pieces when the men went off to fight. Previews of episode 3 certainly hold promise for further drama.
MY RATING: **.5 / *****
