A documentary which follows the lives of 4 young actresses as they try to survive in the cutthroat world of adult films.
Porn is something that will obviously not be going away any time soon despite the belief that this facet of society exploits those involved. It chews them up and spits them out, as it were. I don’t really have an opinion on this sort of thing except it has seeped into our everyday culture. It has become the norm, almost. Someone out there obviously wants it so that’s why it exists.
I’m not going to get dribbly and say ‘this is a seminal documentary’ etc. Its interesting hearing it from the perspective of those who to many are just an ‘object’ and in many cases they have justification for doing what they do. Its certainly a provocative subject to do a documentary about. In a culture where everyone is producers and consumers at the same time, it is certainly worth thinking about. It may even promote some discussion.
The film didn’t really delve into the motives of the girls all that much. That would probably just be far too explosive as a subject. What this documentary shows is how short a shelf-life adult performers actually have before they are forced into a niche market in order to survive. It really questions how far and low they are willing to go in order to make $$$. After all, they do make more money doing adult films than working at Walmart…apparently.
