I watched this film because at the time of writing it was the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This movie was a favourite of mine back when I was in college around 2011-2012. I thought I’d reviewed this film before but it would seem not.
This isn’t a masterpiece film but I think its the sort of film to watch if you love Robert Pattison’s acting. The plot conclusion of the film seems rather inevitable and is bound by sentimentality.
The acting was a bit tinny from all involved. However, in such a film people usually don’t notice the lack of finer detail when they know that at least one of the main protagonists will die. Ruby Jerins’s portrayal of Caroline Hawkins was good, as Tyler Hawkins’s emotionally wounded but artistically talented girl bullied by her classmates. I hope Jerins continues acting for a long time to come, as even in this film she showed great promise.
Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Tyler was rather good because he comes across as a guy truly wounded by his irregular family dynamics and his past. I’m not as besotted by the film as I was back when it was originally released. Its an OK film, though. But sadly I fear Robert Pattinson will never be able to truly escape the shackles of the Twilight films in order to establish himself as a legitimate actor.
MY RATING: ** / *****
