A nerdy janitor falls into a vat of acid and becomes the Toxic Avenger.
When watching this film, its best it is not taken too seriously. Of course the violence and gore is very upfront and in-your-face. The film is supposed to be quite funny but I think for me it will take a second viewing to get fully immersed in the ‘humour’ of it. One scene of the transformed Toxic avenger opening a jar for a damsel in distress had me chuckling, however.
This movie is like a 1980s teenage boy’s wet dream with an exuberant dollop of superfluous sex and nudity. The acting itself also leaves a great deal to be desired but you don’t usually watch these films for the finesse of their acting ability. If anything, this film has made me curious to explore the other Troma films which are out there in the deep dark universe.
So, while this film didn’t have me rolling on the floor laughing it was certainly entertaining. However, it lacked plot coherency or adequate character development arcs.
MY RATING: **.5 / *****
