Movie about a group of strangers arriving on a tropical island and a doctor trying to find a cure for an outbreak of the undead.
While this was a poorly dubbed mess, it was rather fun all the same. The acting wasn’t great, and it seems that everyone involved wanted to make the most of their walk-on role.
With unsteady gender politics clearly lineated in this film, it is an entertaining piece of trash and I didn’t want it to end. The zombie makeup is clever and if you like guts and gore aplenty then this is the film for you.
However, that being said, while this film was entertaining I wouldn’t honestly put it in my Top 10 Greatest Films ever watched. Yes, it is rather fun but that is all. The score sounds like a low bass club beat and was chilling but certainly distracting. The film seemed to act as an excuse for little more than a visceral excess of guts and gore, while clearly homaging such films as I Walked with a Zombie. Its cheapness is also clearly seen in many scenes but its quite amusing.
My viewing of zombie-esque films has been sadly limited but this film has encouraged me to watch more.
MY RATING: *** / *****
