This was supposed to be a prequel of sorts to the popular 1990s sitcom, Keeping Up Appareances. This episode (a standalone, thankfully!) left me less than impressed.
To start off, I don’t want to be a purist.
I was a huge fan of the original series. Of course, I wasn’t expecting it to remain completely faithful to the original story, but anything is going to be significantly weaker than the original series which was of course rather fun.
This show was one of many produced to celebrate 60 years of Hancock’s Half Hour. I tried to go into watching this show with an open mind but was sadly disappointed. Kerry Howard (Him & Her) squawked her way through her lines as a young Hyacinth but in such a way that it wasn’t very funny. None of the other characters had any significant or memorable character traits. It was like watching a blob flop about onscreen.
Hopefully they don’t go for a full series in this one because it was so tedious and boring. I didn’t care what happened to any of the characters and none of it was remotely funny. I wish I could find something positive to say about this show but alas I cannot. Please stop, BBC. Please stop.
