In September 2016, Poldark returned for its second series.
To begin with, I just want to say that I ummed and ahed last year about watching Poldark’s first series. And now, I adore it.
I was so happy to discover that the second series had returned. From the get go, it did not disappoint. It was still as beautifully photographed and amazingly scripted as before. It took its time to unfold and was all the better for it. The acting talent was superb from all concerned. Character arcs are believable, and you really do care what happens when things go good and bad for the characters.
Aidan Turner is as brilliant as ever as our main hero. His relationship with Eleanor Tomlinson’s Demelza is beautifully crafted and it even made me shed a few tears in the opening minutes of the episode. Their relationship has grown and strengthened in the face of disaster and with the threat of more disasters to come. More joys and sorrows too, no doubt, especially for the Poldark cousins and the dishy doctor Dr Enys respectively.
I can’t wait for more episodes of this show, and I hope it continues for as long as feasibly possible.
MY RATING: **** / *****
