Sharks terrify the populace of a Los Angeles resort as a freak hurricane hits.
This is another of those films which is so awful that it has for some reason achieved cult following, just like other films of its ilk (The Room, to give just one example). I watched it with my sister and brother-in-law and we all took great delight in ripping the film to pieces.
This film has no character development at all. I know that if you watch a ‘comedy’ like this then you’re hardly looking for believable character arcs or plot development. There was no discernible characters at all. They all just moved around as one huge blob and these weak characterizations were occasionally interspersed with weak titillation and lazy references to Jaws. Because in any film involving the ocean, people or sharks, you have to refer to Jaws somehow. It’s practically undisputed filmic law. The characterization was so poor and whenever something bad happened to the characters I realized how little I actually cared because none of the characters had done anything particularly memorable. The script was awful too, and the story itself just slammed to a close with no development of any sort throughout the 1 hr 26 min runtime.
This film wasn’t very funny in the conventional sense although as the film went on it was laughably bad, especially when it came to issues of continuity. Don’t waste your time on this film unless you want to watch it with friends and use it as an opportunity to poke fun at the film’s obvious inadequacies.
