In January 2017, the first episode of Call the Midwife Series 6 was aired.
To be entirely honest, I didn’t even realize that there was going to be another series. The Christmas special was just fine, but it seems that more sugar-sweet episodes are needed. It’s a nice continuation while still exploring similar themes, especially seeing as they have long since moved onto their own narratives and deviated quite a bit from Worth’s original memoirs. Nonetheless, the first episode was still hard hitting.
The central story was well told and truly heartbreaking. The talent from all involved was superb, although I really do miss Pam Ferris’s character of Sister Evangeline, following her death in the previous series.
The episode is promising over all and I hope the rest of the series continues to be as good. It would make sense for the show to end after this series, because surely there comes a point when the original intention of the show is lost to a tidal-wave of sugary-sweet story-lines repeated in a burst of misplaced nostalgia for days long since passed?
